Michael Hsu, FAIA, IIDA, NOMA, is the founder and Principal-in-Charge of Michael Hsu Office of Architecture (MHOA), the Austin- and Houston-based practice he launched in 2005 with the completion of Uchi — a project that set the hospitality-rooted DNA the firm still designs from today. Two decades later, MHOA has grown into a nationally recognized, fully integrated architecture and interior design studio of more than 60 professionals, with work spanning hospitality, mixed-use development, adaptive reuse, and civic projects across Texas and in cities including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, Nashville, and Denver. In July 2026, the Texas Society of Architects named MHOA its Architecture Firm of the Year, the organization's top honor recognizing the breadth, consistency, and emotional resonance of the firm's work statewide — a distinction that followed the firm's Clarksville Residence winning both a 2026 TxA Design Award and a 2026 AIA Austin Design Award of Excellence. His work spans projects like South Congress Hotel, El Sitio Tropicano, Howler Brothers, Uchiko, and P.Terry's to large-scale public realm and place-making work.
